How to apply for the Malaysia Spouse Visa

To get a Malaysia Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP), you must follow a straightforward but detailed process.

The application must be submitted to the Immigration Department of Malaysia or an Immigration Office within Malaysia.

Here’s your step-by-step guide:

3. Submit your application:

The Malaysian citizen or Employment Pass holder must submit the application along with the required documents to the Visa, Pass and Permit Division at Immigration Headquarters in Putrajaya, or local immigration office**.

If applying as a spouse of a Malaysian citizen, both the applicant and the Malaysian citizen must be present during the application submission.

If you’re undergoing medical treatment in Malaysia, the application can be submitted by you, your escort or a representative from the hospital.

Validity of Malaysia Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTVSP)

The Malaysia Long Term Social Visit Pass is issued for an initial period ranging from 6 months to 5 years. This depends on your circumstances and the discretion of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

The pass can be renewed before its expiration, ensuring continued legal residence in Malaysia without interruptions. It’s crucial to begin the renewal process well in advance of the expiry date to avoid any legal complications.

Renewal applications must be submitted to the Immigration Department, accompanied by updated documentation that proves the ongoing eligibility of the applicant.

Working in Malaysia with an LTSVP

Spouses of Malaysian citizens who have the LTSVP can work in Malaysia, eliminating the need for a separate Employment Pass.

However, family members of Employment Pass holders are not allowed to work in Malaysia with just the LTSVP. You must apply for your own Employment Pass before you begin working in the country.

If you want to work remotely from Malaysia, you could also be eligible for a digital nomad visa.
